Magnetic Drills
Magnetic drills are similar to a drill press machine, however they are much smaller and portable. They connect to the material with a magnetic base. The magnetic base allows the magnetic drill to be fixed onto a work piece in order to be drilled. This is useful if a piece is too large or already in a fixed location. Unlike a hand drill, a magnetic drill allows for consistant, precise drilling in thick-guaged metals because of its rack and pinion mechanical advantage.
Portable magnetic drills use electric motors and run at low RPMs to resist torque forces that ar a result of larger diameter tooling. Some of these drills also have a self-contained coolant supply which reduce the heat generated from friction cutting.
