I bought this jointer for the long tables and parallelogram adjustments. Out of the crate the tables were flat to within the accuracy of my straight edge (.003 over 36") and reasonably parallel. After adjusting the height of the outfeed table the cuts looked very sweet. I was impressed with how sturdy the on-off switch is supported, I'd been kind of expecting the whole box to flap around a bit. Fit and finish were very good on my unit.
For me the whole point of the parallelogram adjustment is to be able to get the tables exactly parallel, so I spent an hour or two to accomplish this. Other than the incredible number of set screws that have to be removed, the process is pretty straightforward. I used a cheap pulley puller to get the height adjustment arms off, seems like that could be a pain otherwise. The total play with the cams isn't all that much, first time I got the outfeed table adjusted perfectly the infeed table didn't have enough adjustability to match, so I adjusted just the outer cams on the outfeed table a bit and then it was easy to get lined up. It's an iterative process, but the reward (at least for me) was tables parallel to within the accuracy of my straight edge.
Not that you have to do it very frequently, but it's also a bit of a trial and error to adjust the outfeed table by just a little to get it to where you want with respect to the blades. The lever arm is short and the table is so heavy that it really wants to move on its own or not move at all. But this is for setup only, so I guess Powermatic didn't see the need to work harder on that.
Shipping was easy to arrange, Elite did well. Be prepared for a large, bulky and very heavy pallet. Probably easy with a fork lift, but otherwise quite awkward. I used a shop crane to get it off the pallet.
This is a great jointer, I only wish I'd upgraded sooner!
