Planer Head
The solid steel 7” diameter helical insert knife cutterhead is driven by a powerful 40HP motor performs full width planing with ease. The helical pattern produces a shearing action for a smooth planed surface with greatly reduced noise. The solid carbide insert knives provide superior stock removal, requiring minimal horsepower. Changing and rotating the knives is easily performed by sliding the cutterhead out of the machine, providing full access to speed up this process. The 2-sided indexable insert knives (30 x 12 x 1.5mm) can be easily rotated when they get dull or damaged for a fresh cutting edge.
Planer Head Height Adjustment & Exclusion
The planer head can be quickly adjusted out of position when not required for sanding applications. The head can then be accurately adjusted back in to position by using a graduated scale and locking mechanism. Additionally, this eccentric adjustment allows you to fine tune the height of the planer head for your desired setting.
Sectional Pressure Shoe and Anti-Kickback Safety Fingers
Equipped with safety anti-kickback fingers installed before the cutterhead to prevent material kickbacks. The sectional pressure shoe conforms to the uneven work piece to ensure proper down pressure for optimal feeding and operator safety.
Rubber Contact Drum
Following the planer head is a 10” rubber sanding drum crucial for intermediary sanding and final calibration. This contact drum facilitates finer sanding, resulting in an improved surface finish with reduced risks of over-sanding. The softer surface minimizes the occurrence of chatter marks or swirls on the workpiece, ensuring a smoother and more refined end result.
Combination Head
The last head incorporates a 6” rubber contact drum with a 2.2” wide adjustable platen. The platen can be raised when further calibration is required and lowered for final sanding with finer grits. The platen is configured with a felt strip and covered in friction reducing graphite cloth. This setup allows for fine sanding results and optimal surface finish.
Accurate Adjustment of the Drums and Platen
The first & second contact drum can be micro-adjusted for belt grit compensation through use of a graduated scale and dial indicator. The platen on the combination unit can be raised or lowered depending on whether you are performing calibration or finishing sanding with the guidance of a scale. The quick-release outboard supports allow for fast belt changes to reduce changeover time. The tracking adjustment is also easily performed by adjusting the knob left and right to ensure it is operating optimally.
Air Jet Belt Cleaning Device
Each sanding head is outfitted with an air jet belt cleaning device which sprays air at the sanding belt as it travels over the top idle drum. The belt crests the drum and opens the grit where a blast of air removes the dust build up on the belt. This system provides a longer belt life and improves consistency and overall sanding results. The air jets also help to mitigate streaking lines from debris trapped on the abrasive belt.
Electronic Belt Tracking
An advanced electronic belt tracking system uses a send-and-receive sensor that delivers pinpoint accuracy in detecting the sanding belt. This precision ensures the most reliable belt tracking increasing overall performance. Specially located air nozzles ensure the sensor and reflector remain dust free. Each sanding head is equipped with belt overrun limit switches which are designed to shut down the machine in the event a belt over travels preventing damage to the belt.
Automatic Disc Brakes for Sanding Heads
A pneumatic disc braking system swiftly stops the sanding heads when stopped or when a fault occurs on the machine. This enhances operator safety, machine safety, and reduces changeover time. Additionally, the sanding motors come equipped with Wye-Delta controls which reduce power consumption on startup.
Safety Systems
The SRN series comes equipped with a wide range of features designed for both operator and machine safety. A safety bump bar on the infeed bed allows the operator to quickly shut the machine down even if their hands are in use. A material over height limit switch protects the machine from feeding thicker material than was intended. There are limit switches on the left and right access doors which will not allow the machine to run when left open. An emergency stop button is located in front and at the rear of the machine. The interior LED lighting indicated when the machine is in fault condition or a ready to run state.
User-Friendly Touch Screen Control
The touch screen interface is easy to use and provides the operator with user friendly controls all in one place. This unit allows the operator to enter in the desired thickness to a 0.001” or 0.1mm resolution. The feed speed can be entered precisely and is controlled by a VFD inverter. Each planer and sanding head can be turned off and on individually with a Wye-Delta soft start control. The amperage of each unit is displayed allowing the operator to monitor the amp load during operation to aid in achieving the best overall sanding result and prolong belt lift through proper use. The on board error diagnostics display any machine faults to allow for fast diagnosis of any potential issues.
High-Quality Italian Rubber Conveyor Bed
The reinforced rubber conveyor belt (made in Italy) provides optimum grip while remaining very consistent in thickness for sanding precision. Additionally, there is a vacuum hold down system which allows you to hook up your dust collection system to provide vacuum hold down of the conveyor belt flat on the machined steel table for added precision. (This is not used for part hold down).
Table Elevation Jack Screws
The table is raised and lowered by four industrial jack screws ensuring perfect flatness and added durability. The screws are covered with rubber bellows to prevent dust contamination.
Variable Speed Feed Motor
The feed conveyor is driven by a powerful 5HP motor. The feed speed is controlled using a frequency inverter (VFD) and can be adjusted conveniently on the touch screen control. This feature allows the operator to set the desired feed speed according to the material and sanding operation being performed whether that be heavy planing or final sanding.
Caliper Auto Thickness Setting Device
A caliper auto thickness setting on a wide belt sander offers precise and consistent sanding thickness by automatically detecting the panel thickness. By automating the thickness adjustment process, operators can save time and labor while also promoting machine safety through improper table adjustments.
Panel Cleaning Brush
Includes a 1HP panel cleaning brush with dual dust ports to further clean the panel after the final sanding unit.
Electrical Controls
Cantek uses high quality Schneider electrical controls to operate the sander, ensuring reliable performance. These electrical components are readily available from Cantek or major electrical stores across North America for added convenience when required.
